The December 5, 2024 CAN meeting featured a presentation from Summer Choudhury about Research for Me, a UNC-Chapel Hill database that helps connect research studies with eligible participants. Summer’s presentation was followed by a discussion about strategies to better support aging-related research initiatives.

Research for Me is an initiative created through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute (NC TraCS). According to Summer, 86% of research studies struggle to enroll enough participants, but 85% of people say they are willing to participate in research. Research for Me seeks to close this gap by connecting researchers with potential study participants.

All studies approved by the UNC-Chapel Hill IRB that enroll or interact with human subjects are automatically listed on the Research for Me website. Site users can search by study topic, department, eligibility criteria, payment information, location of study, and more.

At the December 5 meeting, Summer Choudhury and CAN team members discussed ways to better reach older adults for research opportunities. For example, Research for Me will add keywords to help users find aging-related research, such as “dementia,” “elder care,” and “caregivers.”

As we build out the CAN Directory, the CAN team will continue to pursue ways to highlight aging-related research initiatives, both within the network and more broadly.
